A couple of weeks back, Sony scheduled a few movies for 2012, one of them being the comedy I Hate You Dad, which is now set for release on June 22nd in the summer. We knew who was in the cast, but not who was directing, but of course they've already got someone lined up or that announcement wouldn't have been made. Variety reports that Sean Anders and John Morris, pictured above, will co-direct I Hate You Dad starring Adam Sandler & Andy Samberg as father-son. Anders directed Sex Drive, Never Been Thawed, while Morris is a writer and producer with credits like Hot Tub Time Machine and She's Out of My League. In I Hate You Dad, Sandler will play a father who moves in with his son, played by Samberg, and his fiancee (uncast), only to immediately start feuding with the bride-to-be. You have probably already forgotten about the R-rated comedy Sex Drive that opened in 9th place the weekend of Oct. 17 and quickly disappeared altogether. With no big stars, a generic concept, and an uninteresting title, even the smattering of good reviews it got -- and it actually was pretty funny -- couldn't help it.
But you tend to fail upward in Hollywood, and the two guys behind the film -- writer/director Sean Anders and co-writer John Morris -- are still in demand. Not only are they writing a Meatballs remake for Lionsgate, but now they're set to co-direct a comedy called Hot Tub Time Machine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it's about a group of grown-up friends who visit a hot tub where they once partied, discover it's now a time machine, and travel back to when they were young, raunchy fellows. Hilarity ensues.
You might say, "Why make...

A few years back, Sean Anders made a local film here in Phoenix called Never Been Thawed. That movie helped get him noticed in Los Angeles, where he worked on a few scripts before being hired to adapt a book called All the Way. Anders and his writing partner, John Morris, had their own ideas for the adaptation, and when negotiation to write the screenplay, Anders was also handed the keys.
Yep, three years from local filmmaker to his first Hollywood movie. That movie is, of course, Sex Drive, which opens in theaters today. Anders recently sat down with The Big Picture in an old coffee shop to talk about getting there from here.
The last time we talked, it was right after your Arizona premiere for Never Been Thawed. A lot has changed for you since then...so, what's happened since 2004?
I'll try to tell the whole story. The...

We have two more clips in from Summit Entertainment's comedy "Sex Drive" starring Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew, Clark Duke, James Marsden, Alice Greczyn, Cole Petersen, Camille Guaty, Seth Green and Dave Koechner Sean Anders, a director with a single credit in his name for 2005's comedy "Never Been Thawed," directs as well as writing the script alongside John Morris, with whom he also wrote "Thawed" with. A film which, quite honestly, looks absolutely riotous with raving Amish added into the mix. Seth Green is a welcome addition to the cast in a film remiscent of the 80s releases. Additionally, we have interviews with stars Josh Zuckerman and Clark Duke available at this year's Comic-Con.

Three years ago, a filmmaker here in Arizona made a mockumentary about frozen food collectors and phony Christian rockers called Never Been Thawed. That filmmaker, Sean Anders, received a lot of press for his independent comedy, which enjoyed a very limited release.
Apparently, Never Been Thawed was a pretty good foot in the door, because I saw a poster and a trailer for Sex Drive before ever learning that it's also directed by Anders, who wrote the script with Thawed co-writer John Morris based on the book All the Way by Andy Behrens.
In its teen sex romp sort of way, Sex Drive looks like it could be fun. There are a couple of moments in the trailer - one involving a giant donut suit - that made me laugh, although I have to confess this one doesn't appear to be blazing any new trails or anything. Selfishly, it's more of a,...
