These days, saying that a gay movie is above average may sound like damning with faint praise. The bar seems to get progressively lower and lower as more and more gay movies hit the screens.
But if we say that an average movie is just okay, this one is better than that. There's a cohesion to this collection, because the segments are all written and directed by the same guy. In fact calling it a collection of short films is a little misleading. It's a film with seven different stories. They're not connected by plot, but they are connected by the writer/director's point of view.
This film held my interest, even through some of the patches that were a bit predictable and a tad melodramatic. The stories are truly evocative of different, familiarmaybe even universalaspects of gay life. Along with another reviewer here, I especially liked the last story, which I found sweet without being treacly.
I almost feel guilty for not rating it higher, because I did like this movie overall. I don't think it's great but I do definitely think it's worth your time. It would be a good date movie.
