Fans of recreation reality series, such as 1900 House or Frontier House, may want to skip this program. Although the house, costumes, food, and activities are beautiful and realistic, there is an obvious preferential focus on only a couple characters throughout the series.

The Regency House Party is a docudrama romantic series in which five women and five men are brought together in a period recreation to see if romance will ensue. The financially low characters are given very little attention and minority characters - which are bizarrely brought in late to the program, have almost no screen time and less, if anything, is mentioned of their romantic ambitions.

A couple of the chaperones, women who are supposedly familiar with Regency etiquette, have little control over their wards which results in repeated breaches of period protical and conduct, and unnecessary in-fighting. Participants are allowed to remain in the program when they should have been removed from the project and replaced.

The series is too short to provide enough airtime for all of the characters and there is no follow-up for when the participants return to modern life or how their relationships fare.

Overall, a drama which is quite appealing visually, but seems biased towards specific relationships.
