Really great and dark folk horror from Moldavia.

To tell the truth I do not like just entertainment horror films with computer effects, action, stupid jokes etc.. My favorite horror films are those that really scary or those who make sense . This one has a lot of moral meaning inside. It takes place in 1946 in Moldavian village, where people suffer of hunger and poverty. Children and adults die one by one- nobody can stop that horror. One day a boy finds a black magic book in the house where some magician with a romanian last name lived. That book was about the ways how to contact devil and how to ask help from hell. Some elder people got to know about that unusual book and decided to try it to get million of rubles. The boy was the only one who could read and he was doing a lot of dirty work in those rituals. While this weird group of people was dreaming of the upcoming money- bad things started to happen. It looks more like well-done mystery and drama

The film gives very good lesson for everybody who make money by means of magic tricks. Magic is made not to serve the money-makers. And the devil is the one who punishes people who lost their faith into God.

Really dark folk images, cemeteries, witches, necro realism...
