Synopsis
nicobatlle30 December 2003
A journey into the hottest conflicts of the last Cuban decade. The fall of the USSR, the special period, the blockade, the visit of the Pope, prostitution, racism, the boat people, are some of the subjects that the most important fine artists of the island approach in their work, in a raw, direct and strong way. The Fine arts, specially painting, is the way to try to understand the Cuban contradictions one decade after the collapse of the socialist block. The Cuban revolution created the project of art schools, opening a new space where all that had vocation could develop it. Today, forty years later, Cuba is the country with more fine artists per inhabitants of the world. The Cuban art is not isolated of the political and social changes that are lived in the island. On the contrary is a deeply social art that reflects, investigates and denounces reality. The most famous Cuban painters lead us on a vertiginous trip by present Cuba. Some of the artists who participate are: Fabelo, K-cho, Juan Moreira, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Diago, Rancaño, Abela, Bonachea y Ernesto Villanueva among others.
