Sex & Nudity

  • None, if anything. There is some mentioning of birth defects caused by exposure to toxic chemicals, but no nudity or graphic sexual content.

Violence & Gore

  • Mentioning of Nazi Germany.

Profanity

  • Some uses of "bullshit/shit", "hell", "damn", "god", "murderer", "son-of-a-bitch" but not very often. There is also a racial slur featured in an old 1960's video clip (a drinking fountain has a sign taped over it that says "coloured" in big letters).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Mentioning of Big Tobacco and pharmaceutical drugs, but no outright smoking, drinking or street drugs.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The entire premise of the film, which shares the idea that corporations are out of control and ultimately hurting people every day, may upset viewers.
  • Bizarre, fast, borderline-psychedelic imagery is featured throughout, some of which can be very upsetting and references real-life disasters and crimes in history.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Some mentioning of the September 11th Attacks, child labor, birth defects caused by chemicals, people killed in the Civil Rights Movement and similar historical stories, but nothing particularly graphic.
  • Some imagery that is somewhat disturbing at times, including factory farm images of infected udders on cattle caused by a drug called Posilac.
  • Images of people lying on the ground (presumably dead) from old recorded footage of the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement.
  • The owner of Shell discusses how protestors put up a black flag on his house with the words "murderer" on it. The documentary not long after goes on to say that environmentalists overseas were executed for protesting Shell's business practices.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a very callous interviewee discussing the September 11th Attacks, stating that stockbrokers loved the money to be made off the terrorist attacks and ensuing War on Terror, and this may offend some viewers.
  • Scenes of child labor, factory owners shouting and chasing people and large protests/mass poverty might bother viewers.
  • The talk of how civil rights were used as a cash crab by corporations might offend some viewers.
