Open Season, the first project between video game publisher Ubisoft and Sony Pictures Animation, will be released just before the film's Sept. 29 opening. The film is Sony Pictures Animation's first CGI feature; the video game is the first in a multiple-title licensing agreement with Ubisoft that was announced more than a year ago. Based on the humor of cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers), Open Season revolves around a domesticated grizzly bear (voiced by Martin Lawrence) and a smart-alecky wild mule deer (Ashton Kutcher) and how they must cooperate if the animals are going to prevail over hunters. Open Season co-director Tony Stacchi said that new advances in video game and CGI technology have allowed filmmakers and video game creators to work closely on crossing the intellectual property across media.
