Pioneer of reform advocate
zzmale31 March 2004
The literal translation of this movie is: turn on the lights and put on the decoration (to celebrate).

This movie made in the early era of Chinese reform is an advocate of reform pioneering in introducing one of the most important topic of capitalism: consumption. It is a traditional custom in China to save every single penny but such habit is no longer compatible with modern society because if every single penny is saved by everyone, no money would be spent and the economy would not be able to pick up. One thing audience needs to note is that this does not mean to spend money lavishly, but everyone should have the right to enjoy their life when there is enough wealth accumulated. This concept is common in west but it was still relatively brand new in China back then.
