The Folly of Mankind
Eumenides_017 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favorite movies by the Ansorges. Men try to reach the Moon. They use several techniques, but all fail, some even result in death. Then one simply throws a rope at it and climbs. Soon he's followed by all but one man who lonely contemplates the Moon. He witnesses the rise of cities and skyscrapers, and then the coming of dictators and war. When all cities are laid to waist and men climb down back to Earth, that lonely figure is waiting with a machine gun. He takes everyone out, making a pile of bodies so high it reaches the moon. Finally he tries to climb it, but it collapses and crushes him. And so dies Mankind.

This wonderful misantrophic anecdote is one of the best satires I've ever seen on the stupidity of Mankind's behavior. In just a few minutes, the Ansorges show everything that's wrong with us. This movie was made 40 years ago, but it could have been made today and it'd look modern.
