Very well done on what seems like an extremely low budget.

Warning: Spoilers
I have never seen any other White Fang films but i believe this one is very different. This version may as well be called White Fang 2, it's like a sequel to the first animated White Fang. There is no appearance or mention of a Beauty Smith in this film, although she is referenced on the sypnosis on the video box.

This is a well done little film, and sadly it looks very hard to find. I picked it up at a car boot sale on Pocket Money Video (PolyGram.) The first time i watched it, i thought it was terrible. The dubbing (i think it is dubbed) has the potential to ruin the whole film. The second time i saw it, i saw past the bad dubbing and got into the film. The background animation is wonderful and the film has no stupid songs in it. Just a haunting soundtrack which is quite lovely to listen.

The film sees White Fang, a fully grown wolf, living with Weedon Jr at his parents home. His dad trains dogs, and one day a prize Boxer irritates White Fang until he lashes out and kills the boxer. The Boxer's owner decides White Fang must be destroyed now that he has tasted blood. Weedon Jr takes White Fang off into the woods on a 200 mile journey, while the Boxer's owner and furious locals with guns believe that White Fang has also killed Weedon somewhere in the woods.

Weedon and White Fang are pursued by the ignorant search party for quite some time, until they come face to face with the Boxer's owner (can't remember his name) who only then realises that Weedon is not dead. There's a bit of beating about the bush - i'm going to shoot him - no, don't shoot him - i'm going to shoot him, etc. Eventually the man gives in to the fact that the Wolf Sanctuary is the best place for White Fang and the search party all go back home. The boy and the wolf continue their journey to the Northlands where White Fang finally takes off with a pack of wild wolves. There are no credits at the beginning or end of this film, which is a shame because someone aught to be credited for its animation, direction and soundtrack, not the dubbing though.

This is worth the watch if you can ever find a copy, but it's slow-moving at times and the few bad qualities must mean it's not everyone's glass of whisky. A definite for anyone with a love of obscure animation.

Not perfect, but one of Burbank Animation Studios' better efforts

I have a soft spot for the very obscure but entertaining Burbank Animation Studios animations. My first ones were Hansel and Gretel and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but my personal favourite is The Count of Monte Cristo. White Fang does drag in spots and the voice acting is rather bland, but it is still one of Burbank's better efforts. The animation with the colourful, detailed backgrounds especially makes it one of the better-looking Burbank animations, while the music is very haunting. The dialogue is thoughtful and uncontrived, the characters are engaging and the story is well meaning and does on the whole have an emotional impact.

All in all, very good and worth watching if you can find it. 8/10 Bethany Cox
