The Miners' Hymns (2011) is "an elegant, elegiac found-footage work from Bill Morrison, best known for his silent-film reverie Decasia," writes Manohla Dargis in the New York Times. "A miner himself of a type, Mr Morrison has dug into the archives of the likes of the British Film Institute to cull primarily black-and-white images so rich, so alive with dirty faces, shadows and the occasional pit pony that they resurrect a world that for many has long been lost to history." It screens from today through Tuesday at Film Forum with three of Morrison's shorts, previewed by Cinespect's Ryan Wells. Release (2010) "uses found footage of the 1930 release of Al Capone from Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary," while Outerborough (2005) "gorgeously catches a ride on a trolley making its voyage across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan. Morrison gives us a split screen with two perspectives: a camera facing Brooklyn, another looking back at Manhattan.

We've seen a lot on the Gotham City front lately, from on-set photographs of Batman versus Bane to some potentially significant "Dark Knight Rises" spoilers.
One person who's been curiously absent from the recent "Dark Knight" shenanigans, however, is Anne Hathaway, who stars in the movie as Selina Kyle. The Oscar-nominated actress (and one-time host) isn't staying completely silent, however.
In a new interview, Hathaway was somewhat more open (emphasis on somewhat) about playing Bruce Wayne's newest femme fatale. “I went after it because it was the best role and Chris was willing to meet me," Hathaway told Total Film of her reasons for joining the "Dark Knight Rises" cast, though she was reluctant to say too much more.
"I signed a blood oath," she said, holding up her hand, testifying to the secretive nature of Christopher Nolan's moviemaking magic. "Bloody thumbprint on the paper."
She did add one...

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks has stated that she loves being seen as a sex symbol. The 35-year-old actress, who has previously been described as a "fabulous role model" for maintaining a curvy figure, told Total Film of her pleasure at being desired by men the world over without having to flaunt her sexuality. She said: "I'm thrilled. I'd love to be thought of as that. Mad Men seems like a very masculine show but there are women who are obsessed by it. I think woman appreciate seeing female characters that aren't just one dimensional. "I certainly don't think that more skin relates to sexiness (more)...

Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper's golden days this year are behind them. "The Proposal" and "The Hangover" were early summer smash hits. But with the release of "All About Steve," every film critic in town is saying this is a movie you want to know nothing about.
The movie stars Bullock as Mary, a crossword puzzle creator who begins to stalk her TV cameraman crush, Steve, played by Cooper. Ahn movie critic Bill Wine says the movie takes on stalker-like qualities of its own. "From the moment it begins, we just want it to go away and leave us alone," Wine says in his review.
Rotten Tomatoes, a website which averages scores of movie reviews everywhere, says "All About Steve" scored a dismal 0%. Meaning the film failed to garner even one positive review and a collective army of thumbs point down.
"It seems incredible, but the grimly unfunny comedy...
