Stupid, overly teasing porn comedy
lor_14 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Aussie-derived porn star Pete Dawson dominates (way too much) the ambitiously bad porn film THE SWINGING PLAYBOY, reissued for the hardcore fans (pun intended) on Vol. 149 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series.

IMDb pegs it (without documentation) as a 1973 picture but it plays like 1970/71, when XXX feature films were just emerging on the scene. The sex scenes are shot 95% softcore, including surprisingly those featuring guest star John Holmes, and there's plenty of obvious dry humping going on to pad the running time. In fact, there isn't a single money shot in the movie, hardly acceptable to porn audiences by 1973.

Gimmick is to graft the format of a bed-hopping theatrical farce onto porn, rather poorly executed by the anonymous filmmakers. Dawson, his Aussie accent in full bloom via direct sound recording, is introed taking a bath, while on the phone talking dirty to his girlfriend Jan (his real-life spouse Jan Davis, the duo a team both on-screen and in live sex shows of the early '70s).

After drying off, he has a busty blonde waiting for him on the couch, cueing an endless and tedious multi-position sex scene that could usefully have been cut by about 2/3's. It's shot in real-time cheapo fashion, with mucho fake moaning & groaning of passion. The director yelling which position he wants can be clearly heard on the soundtrack, a porn peril of shooting direct sound (since there seems to be an unwritten rule to leave such gaffes in the final cut, don't ask me why).

Before he can ejaculate the doorbell rings, and naturally it's Jan -anxious for sex. Mrs. Dawson is a tall, buxom MILF, and always a treat, but like hubby never made it to stardom once porn emerged as a big deal post-DEEP THROAT.

With Mickey Mousing music comically playing, Dawson begins a tiresome routine of bed-hopping, striving to keep both women happy (and in the dark) in separate bedrooms on different floors of his mansion. Clad in a short pink bathrobe, he's supposed to be a Zayre's level version of Hugh Hefner, running up and down his stairs, but it just ain't funny.

A sixty-nine position by Jan & Pete is interrupted by the doorbell ringing again, heralding the arrival of a big-nosed (she's pretty ugly) but with beautifully big tits & nipples Southern gal, also demanding some of that Dawson sex. She's led to a third bedroom, but just as things start getting hot & heavy, the phone rings. It's Jimmy (John Holmes), who Dawson asks to hurry over (to help him out in the sack).

SPOILERS ALERT:

This being slapdash porn, Holmes arrives at the door only seconds later, and immediately is set to the task of servicing Miss Big Nose. Fresh from his stag film career in loopland, Holmes humps her with his socks on. But Holmes' raison d'etre, his overlong Johnson, is barely shown at all in a repetitive, clearly fake and overlong sex scene with her.

Jan goes downstairs and catches Dawson humping the blonde, but instead of getting mad she asks to join in, and the threesome is mainly lesbian (softcore) sex. During this troilism, Big Nose and Holmes appear at the door to watch the trio, and a handy closeup (rare in this film, as the sex scenes are all shot discreetly from a distance) showcases Holmes' huge limp dick, cueing all three girls to go off with him, much to Dawson's dismay.

With no cum shots and no penetration footage for him, Holmes' participation seems a shuck, and pretty much sums up the failure of THE SWINGING PLAYBOY. With his greasy matted-down hair, Dawson works up a lot of sweat trying to keep things moving, but both as hardcore porn and as comedy this 1-day wonder is stillborn.

Breezy comic porn romp

Warning: Spoilers
Wealthy stud Phil (hunky Auusie Peter Dawson) finds himself with his hands full as he tries to please a trio of lovely, yet libidinous ladies after all three women arrive at his opulent abode throughout the course of a single evening. Fortunately, Phil's friend Jimmy (the legendary John Holmes) also shows up so he can participate in the merry carnal activities.

Director Jimmy DeKnight keeps the enjoyably inane story moving at a zippy pace and maintains an engaging lighthearted tone throughout. The sex scenes are raunchy, fairly explicit, and energetic, with the definite exciting and arousing highlight occurring when Jimmy goes to town on a hot'n'horny busty brunette. The groovy jazz score keeps everything bobbing along. The crude unpolished cinematography replete with shaky zooms and wonky focus gives this picture a certain lovably scrappy charm. Good silly fun.
