Still get the song stuck in my head at times
Sparrow_in_flight4 March 2004
I remember watching this, right after Captain Kangaroo on PBS. And it was fun, though I never owned the activity book. When I heard the music

Picture pages, picture pages Time to do some picture pages Time to get your crayons and your pencils

I would run into the room with crayons and paper, to sit in front of the TV and try to copy what Cosby was doing. Other shows that came later, like Pappyland "Pappy, Pappy drew it = he drew Pappyland. And you too, can do it, if you're in Pappyland." were cute, but just didn't grab my attention, and I really don't believe it's because I was too old for them.

I miss Picture Pages. (And apparently, so did my high school Spanish teacher, as she always sang the song when we got out the workbooks.) It was a great way for kids to learn some simple art.

Very educational show

I used to watch this show when I was a little girl. When I think about it, I remember it very well. If you ask me, it was a cute show. One thing I sort of remember is the theme song. In addition to that, everyone was ideally cast. The writing was also very strong. The performances were top-grade, too. I hope some network brings it back so your kids can see every episode. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that I'll always remember this show in my memory forever, even though I haven't seen every episode. Now, in conclusion, if some network ever brings it back, I hope that you catch it one day before it goes off the air for good.

Don't forget Bill's partner in crime...

Bill Cosby may have been the lone human actor in this series of shorts, but he was faithfully accompanied by his magic pen named "Ichabod Crane" which made music when Bill Cosby wrote with it. (Many-a-friend I know longed to have that wonderful pen!)

I believe that these "Picture Pages" segments were strategically programed to fit into regular time slots during the program "Pinwheel". Doing so provided an opportunity to keep viewers (presumably children) actively involved at regular intervals while watching the longer program.

There was a corresponding workbook for "Picture Pages" which could be purchased. A child watching the show could flip to the appropriate page in the workbook for that day and participate in real time with the activity Bill Cosby was doing.

Loved Picture Pages!

Something during a conversation reminded me of Picture Pages with Bill Cosby...so I looked it up on the net for the folks at work who apparently missed it.

I LOVED Picture Pages when I was young; my mother even sent away for the books so that I could follow along. The only two shows that I recall significantly while I was very young were Kaptain Kangaroo and Picture Pages - always looked forward to watching them. They were a big part of my childhood.

And now that I've rediscovered this - I too cannot get that darn song out of my head! haha.
