John Dullaghan showcase, but pretty lousy
lor_3 January 2011
Accurately titled EGO TRIP is a by-the-numbers softcore clunker from good ole Cosmos Films, the briefly operative production side of a Manhattan porn exhibitor. It's nice to see soft porn vet John Dullaghan put on a one-man show, but I wouldn't classify it as entertainment.

Back-of-the-envelope concept (in future decades it would be called High Concept) is J.D. as Frank, bragging at a cafe table over a large supply of beers to co-worker Jim about his irresistibility to women. He thinks of himself as quite the lady's man and athlete (supposedly adept at tennis, boxing, pole vaulting, etc.) and film is merely a string of 5 sex scenes in flashback starring big John. That's all she wrote, until the predictable "cut him down to size" ending.

This junker has a single, cheapo bedroom set in the studio, used for each of the conquests. The five actresses, several quite familiar from other minor Cosmos productions like THIS GUN IS LOADED, are all attractive and all extremely tall -giving this subpar movie some appeal for leg men out there. Lady #3, a brunette, delivers on my fail-safe rule for bottom-of-the-barrel porn; she proves this is an ultra-cheapie by showing the dirtiest feet you'd ever want to see, if you were a dirty-foot-fetishist.

Camera-work is of the aloof, continuous take variety, with very, very little editing required. There's no danger of John ever getting it up, and the training manual for soft porn starlets during this very brief period of transition from soft to hard has them skilled in the art of fake fellatio -keep the object covered (either by hand in the way or by long hair obscuring the camera's view). Music track is almost entirely surf guitar music, making creeps like Quentin Tarantino (still a toddler at the time) the target audience for this crap.
