Sex & Nudity

  • Artistic nudity is used on a few occasions; the grand warrior statues in the Warp Rooms are unclothed, and their penises are clearly seen.
  • The Harpies are naked from the waste up. Their breasts are exposed, but not graphically.
  • The Frozen Shade enemy is a fully nude young woman of blue skin. No genitalia is seen. This enemy is seen more than once throughout the game.
  • The Succubus boss speaks to Alucard in a rather sensual, sexually teasing voice. Her in-game graphic appears to show her nude from the waist down, yet nothing graphic is seen.
  • The original picture/artwork of the Succubus shows her with her breasts exposed, including her nipples.
  • A few enemies feature nudity as part of their appearance:
  • No actual depictions of full-on sexual themes.

Violence & Gore

  • A considerable amount. Alucard wields a number of different medieval weapons to strike down monsters left and right. Some monsters bleed when struck and are killed and some monsters gush out in a bloodbath. The violence is graphic in approach compared to other, later Castlevania titles, warranting a T rating. However this game has the graphic violence that would be considered rated M.

Profanity

  • Very mild; "damn", "hell" and "bastard sword" are the biggest offenders.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Very little if any at all. Dracula throws a wine glass on the floor before his battle with Richtor Belmont. It is implied that it possibly contained wine or any kind of spirit.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The Game Over screen shows a grim wasteland with a demonic skeleton half-buried in sand (a la the Game Over screen of "Fallout"), with Dracula's castle making a foreboding presence amid a full moon in the background while dark, creepy music plays and Death says "GAME OVER" before laughing maniacally. This can be scary for some.
  • The game relies on a dark horror atmosphere all throughout considering the subject matter, complete with a "it was an dark and stormy night" appeal.
