Not Bad!

I liked this movie more than I thought I would! Parts of it were quite funny. And, let's see more of the actress that plays "Jennifer"! Her presence lights up the screen - unfortunatley, the movie has so many characters that we don't get to see a lot of the secondary characters, some of whom are very good.

I'll take a toke of what these other reviewers are smoking

Seriously folks. I saw this at the NYC Film Festival in 2000 so in all fairness the Writers/Directors must have improved since then.

But....a day or two after seeing Love Disease, I just had to email the folks at the Film Festival and ask for my money back.

Never got my money back, but here's my two cents on this videotaped disaster heavy on dialogue that should be a god send to any insomniac.

In a movie that tries to get you to root for the cool guy protagonist, I couldn't much care for him. Actually, I found him and his pals VERY unrealistic but annoying young twerps at worst and boring cardboard cutouts at best. The romantic angle was contrived and the humor lacking.

Are these other reviewers related to the film makers? Maybe we New Yorkers expect more and I don't mean that in a snobbish way. But from the sound of the audience and the friends sitting beside me, I know I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

A pleasurable journey

A laugh riot from the opening credits, Love Disease surprised me every step of the way. I caught this film while it was showing at the Jamerican Film Festival in Jamaica, and I can say I'm glad I did.

Not in a while have I seen a film that was able to slowly draw me in the more I watched. The film opens with the lead character Jeremy finding his girlfriend in bed with his best friend. As a result he becomes an extremely bitter individual, and takes on the task of making a film that will prove love is a myth. In turn, his friend Brian bets Jeremy he can make a movie that will actually prove the opposite, that love is real. So they go out to make this film with their friends.

Jeremy comes upon this footage of a young bitter woman but he doesn't know her name or number. He believes if he finds her, it will prove once and for all that love isn't real. So he starts putting up flyers to find her, and in turn the entire city freaks out over the flyers. I don't want to ruin the rest of the film but what ensues is hilarious.

Love Disease is what independent filmmaking has lacked over the last year, originality. And I especially loved the young cast who added such depths to the characters. The writing was excellent as well, on par with independent films like Clerks and Brothers McMullen. If it comes to a theater near you, check it out.

Funny movie

Caught this film during a promotional screening in Toronto. A very funny movie with a great story behind it. I thought I would hate the film but it just kept getting better and better. The cast was great and I loved the guy who played Carlo, he took the character of an idiot to an all time low. Great time.

interesting and rudimentary

For the first half of the movie we couldn't figure out whether some of the acting was intentionally bad or really was....never did really figure it out. The direction and writing was interesting but we felt that the film could be better done even on the obvious low budget.

Laugh so hard my belly ached...

This film took me totally off guard. I was given tickets to attend the Atlantic City Film Festival, and cordially accepted. When I sat down to watch this film I expected a boring pretentious, independent crap. And what I got was a hysterically funny film. I loved every minute of it, and from the moment I sat down to the moment the credits rolled I was absorbed into the story. The character of Ian, this neurotic guy who never scores with women, was the funniest part of the film. I can't wait for this film to come to video...

Loved every minute of this movie. Problem is I haven't seen it out since it's initial screening in Toronto. I hope it comes to video soon. Anyway loved the story, the cast and Mr. Dressup rocks. Canadian filmmaking the way it should be. Carlo rocks!!!! Later dudes.

Cool Flick
armychick_229 March 2001
I can honestly say I loved this flick. If you are a fan of romantic films than this the film to watch. A movie that half-mocks half-praises romantic films, and their unique conventions. Fun all around with a great looking cast, especially the guy who plays Jeremy. He reminds me of a young Cary Elwes.
