Carla Rossi is a business consultant, who has transferred back to Glasgow to downsize the Evening News. On a night out she befriends sports reporter Stuart Morrison, a widower who is looking after his young son, alone.
After the fall out following their one night stand, Cara attempts to make things right and requests to shadow Stuart. Despite Cara's real job being revealed the pair start to become friends before bumping into each other at the park.
Cara has been caught in a white lie, after telling her ex-boyfriend Dominic, she is in a new relationship. Her mother now expects to see this man at a family wedding, so she reluctantly asks Stuart to pretend to be her new boyfriend.
Stuart and Kara's new found happiness starts to blossom into a serious romance. Paul confesses Stuart that he plans to ask Jess to marry him but dies in an motorcycle accident. Cara's downsizing, at the paper, will make Stuart redundant
Cara lays out her plans for the newspaper's survival and it means job cuts. Jess's mental state is effected by Paul's death. Stuart's parents are concerned that Denis is getting too close to Cara and she could move on at anytime.
Under Cara's new proposals, Stuart needs child care for Denis but instead he dramatically resigns. With their relationship looking doomed, Cara quits her job. When Jess leaves a cryptic note, Cara and Stuart reunite to help save her.
