Chekhov's Swimming Pool
boblipton22 December 2021
Earl Rodney is in charge of the Sanitarium Hotel temporarily, when he agrees to rent the place to a bevy of Sennett Bathing Beauties. Since the place is failing and needs repairs, there are plenty of short gags for Keystone's company to perform, lots of doors to slam as people run in and out, and of course a swimming pool for the girls to cavort in and the men to fall into. That's what swimming pools are for, isn't it?

It's all competently and mechanically performed without, alas, much flair. This is not Keystone A list, nor is there much of a story in evidence.

Blanche and Baldy battle through
kekseksa18 April 2018
The sanitarium run by Lallah Hart (who does not appear in the IMDB cast-list) is in need of repairs and her nephew (Earle Rodney) is broke and after a loan. In her absence (off with her beau) he rents the place out to a group of (presumably) chorus girls (doubling inevitably as bathing beauties) while having to deal with the arrival of his own fiancée (Myrtle Lind) and her parents (the formidable Blanche Payson and Baldy Belmont) who between them provide most of what few laughs there are and a sheriff (Fritz Schade) with a debt to collect. One has to put up with an ubiquitous and extremely unfunny Paddy McGuire as a sort of combination porter/janitor/bellboy. Very weak material even if the vague mystery surrounding Lallah Hart (an unusual actress who appeared in very few films) is well maintained and provides the final resolution.
