Mount Tamalpais R.R., No. 3 (1898)

The third of three films in Edison's series that was filmed at the Tamalpais Tavern resort just north of San Francisco. This here clocks in just over two-minutes making it the longest of the three but there's still very little here to actually see. Basically the movie is being filmed by a camera that is following the main passenger train. We see the train going around various curves but that's pretty much it. The most noticeable thing is that whenever the train goes around one of these curves the black steam from it often blocks any type of view from the camera. It appears the studio cut at this point and we see the action picking up after the smoke has cleared. Again, early fans of film might find this interesting but it really does appear that the studio were just trying to make more money by making this series longer. The first film was interesting enough but parts two and three are rather forgettable.
