This is one of a bazillion films sponsored by the National Film Board of Canada. It has a very odd style and consists of an older couple watching television and switching channels. One of the shows they watch is about the extinction of a fictional animal, the Arkelope. However, as they keep switching about, you also see bits and pieces of irrelevant but funny clips of other shows. I like how this couple was used as a plot device to show how the destruction of a species is entertaining and a bit boring to these people--very clever. However, some might be put off by the film's dark sense of humor (I loved it when the guy shot the panda--but some might freak out at this), but such an oddly funny way of looking at species depletion is effective because it is so shocking and callous.
The animation was made using stop-motion characters as well as backgrounds made with chalks of pastels. It looked pretty good and was a quality film.
