Hotel Vendome, San Jose, CA (1897)
This Edison short takes us to San Jose, CA where we visit the Hotel Vendome (just as the title suggests). The camera stays in one spot as various horse and buggies pass by the main entrance. I try to watch as many of these early films as I can and it's always amazing at how just about anything could be filmed and sold to the public. These images were of course rather new in 1897 so it's no wonder that studios would capture anything and sell it. The site of these horses going by the camera isn't anything ground breaking as this type of thing had been done before but it at least gives you a chance to see what it was like in 1897. The outfits that the people were wearing and of course the look of the carriages.
