Hi everyone...I was renting cars to videos and movies in the mid- eighty's when I got a call for 2 '59 Caddies to be at Irvine Meadows in Oct...1985. No problem beings I knew a guy with a dozen or so convertibles...I contacted him and told him to meet me down there, He did, it was for 3 days so he went back home and to work, I stayed all 3 days with the cars and got to meet every body...Bo came early, BBQed ribs & chicken for us all and we had a few beers too. I got to see all rehearsals and hang with a few of the stars...John Hammond Jr, John Mayall, Carmine Apiece, Mitch Mitchell, and so many people on that bill that fall night in Southern California...I drank Jack Danial's with Ronny Wood, smoked a joint with him and Chuck too...I helped Chuck park as he came in... talked about Rusty Kershaw with John Hammond, got Chuck to autograph a photo for my wife then, Connie...a week end like no other for me...

Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley's Rock 'n' Roll All Star Jam (1985)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry get their names above the title and this is certainly a tribute show to those two legends but we also get appearances by Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood, Mitch Mitchell, Carl Wilson and several others.

The setlist includes: I'm a Man, Bo Diddley, Bo Put the Rock in Rock 'n Roll, My Ding a Ling, Destination, Who Do You Love, Gunslinger, Hey Bo Diddley and Rock 'n Roll Music. As you can tell, Diddley's career gets the majority of the running time but it's a lot of fun seeing everyone on the stage jammin'. This here was filmed at the Irvien Meadows Ampitheatre on October 25, 1985 and features both artists at the top of their game and really delivering an energetic set.

Throughout the music there are some interview segments with the various musicians backstage and just hanging out and having some fun. The highlight of these sequences is certainly the one where Wood offers up a drawing that he did of Diddley. You can't help but wonder where this is at now and what it might be worth.
