Not Super, but pretty good.

Super Godzilla is a game that came out for Super Nintendo. It is good and can be pretty fun but there are some flaws.

You play as Godzilla, good guy Godzilla. The point of the game is to save Japan from an evil group of aliens that is trying to take over the universe. That is one thing about the early Godzilla games, you never really play as Godzilla and get to destroy Japan like you did in the movies. Its either fight against aliens trying to conquer the planet or fight against Godzilla. YOu would have to wait until x box and later systems for some great Godzilla games.

So you move Godzilla around. THere is a map at the bottom of the screen with a greenish blue dot. That dot is godzilla. Watch the dot and move it through the map maneuvering around buildings and mountains. If you see a red dot that is the monster you are supposed to fight. Go onto the red dot and that begins a monster fight.

Fighting is kind of weird. You have to punch the enemy monster then move back and choose an attack to use. The more power that you have built up by moving forward the better attack you will get to choose. Once you choose the move you have to watch a scene of Godzilla using the attack you chose. This takes time and makes this game get repetitive and boring and it is not a classic one on one fighter game like Primal Rage or Mortal Kombat. It is more like Pokemon but with less pace.

The music is pretty good though in this game. They use a few familiar songs from the films and some of the music that they play during the monster fights is awesome, the music from the Battra fight is great.

Moving around the map can be boring but at times it can drive you crazy. This is because, starting at the second level, UFO's will pop up without warning and force you to fight them. You have to fight them too because if you run away they will come right back. The only way to stop them is to destroy the mother UFO ship but they can be hard to find sometimes. So a major problem with this game is that you are constantly stopped from going where you want to, more annoying than bad though.

The fighting scenes are OK but kind of slow paced. The monsters all do make their trade mark roars. I find this game some what interesting in that you are playing as Hesei's series Godzilla but you fight the Showa Series Mechagodzilla. I like the choices of monsters you fight in this game, very good. I wont give them all away but you do fight Battra, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla plus a few others. The final boss may surprise you.

So this game has great music and the monsters sound how they should. But moving around slows the game down too much and the fight scenes are not that exciting. So this game is above average and you should play it if you are a Godzilla Fan.

Throw your weight around as you walk around, as the Big G
geogojira2 July 2002
A fun game released for the Super Nintendo. If I remember correctly there are 5 stages to fight through with a different boss at the end of each. You manuever Godzilla through a map to get to the enemy monster. The screen is split into 2 parts. The top shows the upper body of the Big G as he walks about while you use the bottom half to follow a map to you destination. You will face military firepower and other hazards along the way. You dispose of these foes by merely stepping on (or thru) them. Sadly you take damage as you approach them and you even lose life for knocking down high tension wires. Hey the real Big G cant be hurt so easily but its only a game. A different monster awaits you at the end of each area and you will get to see different cinema shots of Godzilla and his enemies as you duke it out. A very fun game especially when you get to the last stage and have the choice of morphing Godzilla into Super Godzilla. Super Godzilla would appear to be the model they used when creating SpaceGodzilla. He looks totally awesome and has some new powers you will be able to unleash. A good game to add to your Godzilla collection but it does suffer from lack of replay value since you must start from the beginning every time you turn the game off or hit reset (no save option). But dont let that deter you, there are not to many games of the Big G around for us and if you happen to see this one its worth grabbing. Of special note this was an $80 game when it first appeared (like alot of my SNES games....grrrr) but you can find it new/used for as low as $10 now.

Godzilla on the SNES!

I think this game was real cool because of the fighting scenes, they kind of resembled a RPG like style. The main plot is aliens are invading tokyo and using monsters to destroy various parts of tokyo, you control godzilla on a huge screen and navigate him thru a huge map, on the bottom is the map, you see a big blue dot which lets you know were you going, and on the top you can see godzilla and his actions weahter he breaks thru a building or other object. Eventually you will see a big red dot which is the enemy and you must enter it to go into battle. when you enter battle with an enemy you have a fighting a spirit gauge, and so does the enemy, the more action you take on the enemy the more it rises, when you get a chance to punch the enemy a little box in the middle will appear showing you what kind of special attack you can use on him, the higher your fighting spirit gauge rises the better the attack you get, however if the enemys fighting spirit gauge rises to the maximum level, he will attack you. Theres 6 levels in the game, you battle UFOs and some of your old favorites like ghidorah and mecha godzilla. ((sadly tho they didnt include gigan my favorite.)) In the end you end up facing off with a new monster bagan. ((A monster that supposobly failed or was cancelled in a godzilla movie.)) Which he is so powerful you must evolve into SUPER GODZILLA which was one of my favorite parts, this was really cool because SUPER GODZILLA was never in a godzilla movie. SUPER GODZILLA is bigger, stronger and quicker than regular godzilla. I could go on and on about this game but youll just have to play it for yourself, it took about a day to figure out how to work everything, but once you get used to it you might find it interesting like i did. Especially if your a godzilla fan.

Super Godzilla!

The Godzilla series is one of the most unique fighting video games! The monsters, the action, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Super Nintendo System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Super Godzilla! If you like excellent fighting and monster games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

Mainly for Godzilla fans

This is a cumbersome game in which you march Godzilla around a grid playing field (cities or rural locations) trying to collect power-ups and recharges and then battle other kaiju.

The 'overworld' scenes aren't very detailed - just a map in the upper part of the screen to show where you are, and a window at the bottom showing Godzilla repetitively passing by or through the same scenery over and over.

This is not a faithful adaptation of Godzilla, at all. The only way to cross the power lines is to take out the towers - you can't walk through the lines. The power line mazes can be really vexing, since you can't STOP Godzilla from walking, so unless you constantly redirect him, he'll blunder right into the obstacles.

The kaiju vs kaiju fight system is very frustrating. In order to build up your power, which allows you to perform more damaging attacks, you have to advance on the other monster. Typically, just about the time you get the meter built up, the opponent will charge into you, and you have to start the buildup all over again.

If you play the game right, you'll get to change into Super Godzilla; it's kind of interesting to note that 'Super Godzilla' looks almost exactly like 'Space Godzilla' from the movies.

This isn't much of a video game; I'd say it's only for Godzilla collectors, like myself.
