Zach Braff plays a teenager who wants to get a summer job so that he can meet girls, not for love but for sex, in this hilarious comedy that deals with stereotypes and sexism. He can't get a job at a summer hotel because he is a guy, and the hotel owner (Barbara Barrie) only wants girls as chambermaids. He thinks this is sexist but can't convince the owner to hire a "chambermale." Then he sees two of the chambermaids working on a car and comes up with the idea of being a girl for the summer.
The owner's grandson is a playboy who wants to go out with the newly hired "chambermaid." His grandmother even makes the point that the "chambermaid" job depends on getting friendly with her grandson. In the meantime, the "chambermaid" meets a girl with whom he really starts to fall in love. Out of drag, he dates her and tries to get sexually intimate on the second date even though, as the "chambermaid," he has to fight off the owner's grandson who wants the same thing from the "chambermaid."
Sexual stereotypes of women and sexual harassment are demonstrated in this cute but insightful comedy as the "chambermaid" slowly realizes what a male chauvinist he himself is. This CBS After School Special has only about 40 minutes in which to tell the story and make the point, but the short film does a good job with an amiable cast and makes its point without being preachy.
