Ambitious mystery by Eric Edwards

Warning: Spoilers
"Mirage" is the opening of a 2-part feature from VCA Pictures which has Eric Edwards tackling a complicated mystery tale that cleverly mixes fantasies and reality in the mind and erotic dreams of heroine Ashlyn Gere. It's not wholly successful, but an admirable work that treats the audience with respect.

MANY SPOILERS:

Set in the publishing world, with Gere working as a reader for boss Peter North, the story is filled with dualities and ironies. I especially enjoyed auteur Edwards' conceit of dealing both with ghosts in the dreams and possibly actual occurrences, but also emphasizes ther main underlying theme and revelation that Gere turns out to be a ghostwriter of key novels that North is publishing, unbeknownst to him. In addition, the fictitious authors enter into the action as her various alter egos: appearing to be real men, but are they?

This fascinating structure, including plenty of interesting dialogue and plot exposition, supports a dozen XXX scenes doled out over the course of the two features. Besides Gere, Nina Hartley looks absolutely fabulous, stealing prominence in Part I with her outdoor sex scene with Mike Horner, who turns out to be one of Ashlyn's alter egos. And superstars of the future Trinity Loren and Taylor Wayne also provide erotic highights.

Waking up from one (of many) erotic dreams/nightmares, Gere exclaims: "This is getting ridiculous!", the sort of line that might elicit groans, but actually reflects Edwards' self-effacing attitude toward his script. He put a lot of work in it, and the serious viewer will appreciate it.
