Not the easy road to take: Sidiropoulos morality against the corruption around us
DominiqueArvanitis6 November 2005
"Easy Road"? To be honest, I know it -and people around here know it too- as "O ASYMBIBASTOS", namely the misfit/uncompromisable. Pavlos Sidiropoulos gives a very gentle view of how a simple guy of the late 70's passes his time with his friends, how -strange- the society seems to him... His relation with his father, brother and girlfriends, how dirty some professions may be...everything in this movie is so moral...We talk in here about a very romantic story with a very poor -meaning, in essential, clean- guy, Pavlos, who couldn't stand being a member of our modern-time's society and tried to act as he himself believed it would be right. The real Pavlos -let's mention here that the film is in many subjects inspired of his real life and beliefs- finally died as a junkie, in the city that he so much liked and in parallel hated, Athens, being a misfit, an uncompromisable. Although the film does not exist anymore in the local video clubs, all the people I know and have seen it -for example, Giannis and Aris who are near me know- really like it. Few films in those years were saying so clearly about our society and the way we live. Moreover, very few Greek films can be characterized as a masterpiece and maybe it would be an exaggeration to call this one like this, but I think that it surely is one of the purest films that exist in my country...It may take you back to the year 1979, but not many things have changed since then. About the music, finally, I have not many things to say, you just have to see the movie -or to buy the LP and listen to it- to comment on. I just found it very romantic and of a hight quality!

An Honest Movie

"Easy Road" isn't a masterpiece, that's for sure. But we have to admit that it's an honest film with a romantic point of view and a bittersweet feeling. It's all about uncompromising and emotional persons and their problems to harmonize themselves with society.Of course it's a low budget film (as the most Greek films are) and unfortunately it seems like one.

Anyway the biggest advantage of this movie is Pavlos Sidiropoulos (a very important singer and songwriter),who had the main role and was unexpectedly great.

The songs and the music are beautiful and written by the director himself.
