The Quest of Life (1916) - Lost Film
PamelaShort14 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Ellen Young's ( Florence Walton ) talent for dancing, takes her out of the slums, and after forming an act with Maurice Bretton, she becomes nationally known. When Ellen falls ill, and doctors tell her that she must move to Arizona or die within the year, she decides that she prefers a short life in the spotlight to a long one in the desert. Learning of her illness, however, Maurice has Ellen taken to a sanitarium, and secretly pays all the bills. During her recovery, Ellen decides that her manager, Alec Mapleton ( Julian L'Estrange ), is the one responsible for putting her in the sanitarium, and she views this as an act of love. When Alec comes to see her, however, he tries to rape her. Maurice, who has also come for a visit, stops him, after which Ellen discovers that her dance partner is her real benefactor, and then begins making plans with him for their marriage.

This silent drama starred the beauty, Florence Walton who was an accomplished dancer and Ziegfeld girl. This film was her first and only successful effort as a film actress and is now sadly a lost silent.
