Whether one enjoys 'Mousie Come Home' is dependent on what your thoughts are on lead character Andy Panda. Personally find him a cute and appealing character if not always with the strongest personality, whenever he was with Woody Woodpecker Woody was always the funnier and more interesting character. With his solo cartoons, of which 'Mousie Come Home' is one, some are better than others (which is true of a lot of animation characters with theatrical series) but they are watchable.
'Mousie Come Home' is a watchable cartoon, but really that's all it is. It does have good things, has one good character and has amusing moments. It does though have just as many not so good things, two of the characters don't work that well, the story is weak and the tone change is uneasy. As far as Andy Panda's cartoons go, 'Mousie Come Home' is one of the lesser ones in my view, he also isn't really the lead character despite the cartoon being part of his theatrical series and he doesn't feel like one either.
There are good things about 'Mousie Come Home'. The animation is very well crafted, with rich vibrant colours and the attention to detail in the backgrounds is not too simplistic or too elaborate. Even better is the music. It's characterful, lushly orchestrated and is not only dynamic with the action it even enhances it. The writing has wit and made me smile at times.
Did think that there were some nicely timed and amusing sight gags in the first half. Did like the Carmen Miranda references. The best character is the dog, you see his type of character all the time in cartoons but he was amusing and had the biggest and most interesting personality.
However, this is saying quite a lot as Andy is very bland and has little to do and the mouse (pretty much the lead) is incredibly annoying, that laugh really grates. So the lack of interesting or appealing characters does drag the cartoon down a lot. 'Mousie Come Home' also feels too much like a different cartoon in the second half, things abruptly take a darker turn and the content becomes too far on that and borderline mean spirited.
It is quite thin story wise and holds not many surprises due to the scenario being a familiar one. Momentum is lacking at times, especially when it runs out of ideas too early.
Overall, watchable but nothing special really. 5/10.
