Hot Dog marked the debut of Bimbo in a Max Fleischer cartoon
tavm12 April 2017
This early Max Fleischer Talkartoon was notable as the first appearance of a humanized dog named Bimbo. He's not with usual girlfriend Betty Boop as she hadn't been created yet. Sid Marcus is an animator of this one and is responsible of much of the bizarre animation of this short. Bimbo likes the ladies and has his car literally scoop one up while cruising down the street. She rebukes him and he ends up in court where he plays the banjo and part-warbles "St. Louis Blues". Like I said, this was quite a weird cartoon but that's part of its charm. So on that note, I recommend Hot Dog.

Delightful Musical Performance

Bimbo appears. He is a dog who can't stay out of trouble. He literally picks up a pretty young girl on the side of the road in his car. He puts moves on her that wouldn't be appropriate today. She manages to hold her own and he ends up in court. The great thing about this one is the amazing banjo playing sequence at the conclusion. Wonderfully creative and genuine fun.

THE STORY & GENRE -- Bimbo is in trouble. Not genre. I don't know why this would make a genre list. Fleischer produced.

THE VERDICT -- I lost interest halfway through, lol.

FREE ONLINE -- Yes.

Fleischer.. animated (Bimbo).. in trouble, not genre.. HAD: don't care.. tt0141170.
