Kate's finest hour!

Warning: Spoilers
A year after 'Kate & Ted's Show' was cancelled, the stunningly gorgeous Kate Robbins was back on Granada Television with this short lived but superior sketch show entitled 'The Kate Robbins Show'. Her brother Ted re-joined the cast, as did Michael Fenton Stevens, however a new face was added to the mix, the underrated Paul Bradley. The material was this time around more slick and consistent, resulting in many highly amusing sketches.

Kate regaled us yet again with her fine impersonations of Cilla Black, Tina Turner, Sarah Brightman, Anneka Rice, as well as take-offs of television characters such as Annie Sugden from 'Emmerdale Farm' and Vera Duckworth from 'Coronation Street'. She also performed some humourous piano ditties.

I didn't care for some of the songs but there were enough amusing sketches to make the show worthwhile, particularly a sketch featuring Cilla Black interviewing Princess Anne in a 'This Is Your Life' style, as well as a witty item featuring Kate telling her studio audience that Anita Dobson, who played alcoholic landlady Angie Watts in 'Eastenders', was asked by her musical agent to perform a cover version of 'Wide Eyed & Legless'!

There were only six episodes made sadly, despite being a ratings success, and what is even sadder is that is has not been made available on DVD. Kate has not done much in the way of comedy recently. Pity. She was one of the funniest women I can ever recall seeing on television.
