Unfunny asinine sex comedy
lor_16 June 2015
Familiar NYC porn cast flops mightily in Carter Stevens' THE MOUNT OF VENUS, an overwritten travesty purporting to be a XXX comedy.

Jamie Gillis stars as Jupiter, Roman god whose appellation of The Storm Bringer is meant to be hilarious as cheap on-SPFX lightning and thunder are interspersed with the narrative. The IMDb synopsis for this film, written by a notoriously untrustworthy shill, refers to Greek gods - I guess "you seen one god you seen 'em all" applies here.

The Roman gods including Juno (Georgina Spelivn, wasting her time), Venus (lovely Kim Pope) and Mercury (Eric Edwards in modified Keds) are assembled not on Greece's Mount Olympus but rather the title location, which in typical dumb-pun porno fashion is lifted from its true sexual meaning for mound of Venus. Otherwise, Stevens' collaborator screenwriter "Merry Seaman" shows off her pointless research at every turn, trying to use mythology as a springboard for porn humor - a fruitless effort.

Chief gimmick of Gillis appearing on Earth to have sex with various women in order to convert them into followers of his now-lapsed religion is very poorly executed by Stevens. His horribly chintzy sets, whether a cheap dorm room on Earth or wispy "clouds" up on the Mount, are matched by nonexistent SPFX. Gillis changing into other people or a bull is unconvincing and merely stupid, as is his pompous performance which Stevens has the temerity to roundly criticize in the DVD's interview bonus material. I wish the brain-dead interviewers for these now-mandatory extras would put some tough questions to the filmmakers, instead of consistently acting as their p.r. team.

Coup de grace is this atrocious film ending with a freeze frame of Jamie slipping a finger at the audience, summing up the filmmaker's condescending attitude eloquently. I would counter this to "Carter" -find me one good movie among your roster of '70s clunkers, leading up to the embarrassment of ending your career trotting out dozens of abysmal fetish videos with titles like ALL PAIN, NO GAIN and BENEATH MY HEELS.

An amusingly dopey porno comedy romp
Woodyanders7 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Pompous, but powerful head Greek god Jupiter Stormbringer (hilariously overplayed with lip-smacking zany zeal by legendary 70's hardcore cinema stud Jamie Gillis) is having trouble coping with the 20th century. He's especially upset about his current lack of loyal followers. So Jupiter goes down to earth to convert several female disciples by having sex with them. Meanwhile, his fellow gods watch Jupiter's faltering attempts at making new believers from their base up in the heavens. Director Carter Stevens, working from a totally inane script by Merry Seaman, pitches the cheerfully silly humor at an extremely broad level and crams this film with wall to wall raw'n'raunchy sex which runs the gamut from steamy lesbianism to straight copulation to the inevitable climactic anything-goes wild mass orgy. The cast of familiar 70's porn film faces rates as a major asset: Gillis is an absolute hoot as the bumbling Jupiter, the scorching hot Georgina Spelvin burns up the screen as the perky Juno, ravishing blonde looker Kim Pope makes for a delectable Venus, Kevin Andre joyfully hams it up as the effeminate Bacchus, and Eric Edwards is pretty funny as a fey Mercury. Barbara Carson is likewise quite sidesplitting as zonked-out druggie Caroline and the adorable Chris Jordan has a cute bit as the daffy Sally. The loopy score alternates between cornball ersatz Greek music and more typical sleazy grinding stuff. Bruce G. Sparks' grainy, no-frills cinematography gives the picture an appropriately grungy look. The jokes ate admittedly dumb and crude, but still get big laughs just the same; Gillis's closing line in particular is simply priceless. The lovably cheap sets and chintzy (far from) special effects further add to this movie's rinky-dink charm. A real riot.

Eric Edward is getting on with Georgian and Kim.they all decide to invite the mortal for their party. For the first time You see the sot spoken ,soft manner sarcastic Kevin Andre remove his clothes and get on actually with two women in this orgy. Normally he does platonic scenes only. I though he might have been gay also .He was a soft straight actor,I think. Although this was lower budget it was still very entertaining. Now back to the Roller Babies page. 07/29/22.
