Starting with ridiculous miscasting of Jon Dough in the iconic Jack Webb role, this perfunctory spoof of "Dragnet" is a one-note exercise in weak comedy.
Dough's reciting of his dialogue as fast as possible is poor, as is his walk-through performance as "Joe Thursday" with stolid partner played by nonentity Zach Thomas. Running gag of their fondness for donuts is repetitious beyond belief.
Story of their search for missing girl Mindy West (Sunset Thomas) is boring, and time out for lengthy sex scenes kills off any notion of pacing. Femme cast is lacking big name talent, something of a sin for 1995 when popular superstars were readily available.
Jim Enright was making great comedies for Wicked Pictures in this era, but "Babenet" made for VCA Pictures is flat as a pancake.
