Could have been better.
planet groovy8 January 2001
This isn't a bad movie when you consider it was made for TV and probably did not have the biggest budget. It keeps you interested until you find out all the secrets, then you are kind of disappointed. Basically the plot is a mix of 'Hand That Rocks the Cradle' and 'Rosemary's Baby' so after a while you can see where things are going. With a better script and actors, this could have been pretty good; instead it is just an average TV movie.

Quite alright
peter430044-226 November 2008
We sort of know from the start that there's something wrong with the au pair moving into this American family. But the first hour of the film seems normal, like what's happening can be explained naturally. Which makes it even better when the supernatural plot unravels. The wife of the family doesn't like the au pair and at first the wife comes off as overly sensitive but then she's proved right. The sweet au pair has a bond with evil. The characters are well-played which makes the movie smooth. But on a final note, the end of the movie could have used a bit more horror, a bit more ultimatum.

This movie is entertaining and well-scripted. It's far from Psycho (1960) but far from boring. Given that it's a movie made for TV it's quite alright.

Incredible start but afterwards it collapses like ****
-Peter-27 May 2001
I've seen this film and I must say, the first 7 minutes of the movie are really awesome, and thats all I can say about the film. If the film could hold the atmosphere from the beginning it would have been a GREAT film, but I think the makers ran out of inspiration :)

I rated this film 6

Not even interesting
Rammstein-214 May 2000
Apart from being low-brow from the start, this film is not even merely interesting. It's just a waste of time and money. What bothers me the most is the fact that the makers seem to have picked a the girl's country of origin at random - since they weren't going to check any facts out before shooting.

I'm surprised they even got the car plates right. But it's downhill from there. The Volvo is clearly American, European cars arrange headlights differently. There are no catholic schools for girls in Stockholm, at least not of importance, since catholicism is a less important religion than Islam in Sweden.

The differences between Sweden and the US are not that great. I mean, she messes up the dinner because she can't use the microwave? Give me a break.

This film is not worth the 90-or-so minutes. Just fast forward through it and you'll do fine.

Starts with a bang but becomes a long snooze Warning: Spoilers
Well I'm fully aware this was a TV-movie so I wasn't really expecting anything spectacular. Yet that beginning where a girl gets tricked into a dark laboratory by one of her colleagues and than the explosion setting everything on fire was quite well done. But of course I did know immediately that the wrong girl is going to work as au pair so there wasn't really a surprise there. I also knew that she was going to create chaos in the family. How she did that was in a rather unspectacular way however I quite liked how it drove the mother nuts. It was some kind of a slow burner. The problem however it really doesn't have any standout scenes. The role of the fake au pair's father is interesting so is the fake gardener. The fake au pair's motives remain pretty vague. The whole back story is told so quickly. The ending I thought it was rather lame and quite predictable. There also was some kind of epilogue which looked even sillier to me. It was enjoyable to watch once but forgettable as a whole.

A Little Dull
nicolerobins3023 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Parts of it were a little eerie but the action left a lot to be desired, the fight scene at the end and the car crash were a little awful and a bit laughable.

I liked the flashes of the future in black and white though. And the explosion at the start looked pretty good, I think thats why it's disappointing, because the first five minuets were more entertaining than the rest of it put together.

Personally I think my media class could have made something better, but it wasn't terrible, the mothers dislike of the nanny was believable.

Okayish. It might have worked better as a spoof comedy.

WAITING FOR MY PRINCE
nogodnomasters19 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Young Au Pair Anna Bergman (Olivia D'Abo) arrives at an LA household to care for seven year old Christina (Elisabeth Moss). Like most stories, whenever a new female is hen house, the wife (Marcy Walker) develops suspicions and doesn't want to share the household after all. Anna has a suspect past and is not completely honest. She engages in mild manipulation as things escalate in this made for TV horror-thriller.

This is perhaps 3-4 stars on a made for TV scale, but judging by today's eyes, 2-3 stars is best. I have seen too many young girl in the house cat fighting with the wife over the husband type thing that I have grown weary of them. So unless they come with an "A" game, I don't get excited.

Currently available in a 15 film Echo Bridge set of American Horror.

Started ok, and interesting. Then quickly it turned into boring garbage. Don't waste your time. Boring. It has no right to exist.
Bababooe14 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was part of a multi DVD set. It's a boring satin/cult nonsense about a foreign nanny who tries to sacrifice a little girl on her birthday. The only thing of interest was the beginning when the imposter nanny killed the first girl. Then the imposter nanny's father, who knew that this girl was evil tried to find her. Everything else from the family interaction, to the mother's work relations, was basically garbage.

This film had no right to be made. The idea is stupid. It's been done before. And the execution of whatever ideas they had were just cheese.

Do not waste your time. It's not even funny. I couldn't even laugh at the movie itself. It was just boring.

Rating, F, for Failure, 1 star.

I do not under stand all the bad talk about this movie; I mean come on! this was not intended as a hollywood block buster, it was made for lifetime TV. If you actually watch the movie closely or more than once, you will see that it is really kinda eerie. I watched this movie the very first time it was aired on october 1992 and have watched every rerun on lifetime since. I give it a solid 8 of 10

Like The Omen only better
jacobjohntaylor115 April 2017
This movie is very is like The Omen but better. I will say that the original The Omen from 1976 is a pretty good movie. But this is better. The 2006 remake of The Omen was just overrated crap. This is a great movie is very scary. It is scarier then The Omen. This movie has a great story line. It also has great acting. It also has great special effects. 4.8 is a good ratting. But this is such a great movie movie. That 4.8 is underrating. I give this an 8. It is a great movie. You should see it, It really is a great horror movie. This is scarier then The silence of the lambs could ever be. This is scarier then A Nightmare on elm street and that is not easy to do. This is scarier then Friday the 13th V a new beginning and that is not easy to do. See this movie it is one of the best horror movies of all time.

A Good Au Pair Is Hard To Find...
azathothpwiggins7 October 2021
MIDNIGHT'S CHILD starts out with a bang -literally- when a young woman in Sweden is bludgeoned, then blown up! Her name was Anna, and she's replaced by her killer (Olivia d'Abo).

The scene switches to the US, where a busy wife and husband are expecting Anna's arrival as their daughter's new au pair. When "Anna" shows up, she starts causing trouble right away. The wife grows suspicious while her husband remains oblivious to "Anna's" creepiness.

Nothing overly exciting happens until the last 20 minutes or so, when "Anna's" true identity is revealed along with her secret agenda. This part is pretty good, and comes as somewhat of a surprise. It's rather absurd, yet fitting in a weird way.

As made-for-TV thrillers go, this one is worth watching, especially for the opening and ending sequences. Ms. D'Abo is perrrfectly demonic in her malicious role...
