Sex & Nudity

  • In a night club, a woman walks on stage to perform a striptease dressed in fishnet stockings, a bra and panties. The camera zooms in on her butt several times as she is bending over and teasing the audience. Scene cuts right before she removes her bra.
  • A girl gets on a bed with Jermaine and kisses him. One of the two younger boys, hiding under the bed, playfully runs his hand up the girl's leg, which the girl mistakes for Jermaine's hand. The interlude is interrupted by the boys' giggling.

Violence & Gore

  • Joe Jackson beats Tito after he breaks one of the strings on the guitar (offscreen, you can hear Tito's cries of pain).
  • Joe Jackson is seen repeatedly hitting Marlon in one scene, after Marlon makes a mistake on a dance step.
  • Joe Jackson runs into the house intending to beat one of his sons for dropping a towel into the swimming pool, but Katherine stops him and tells him to never lay a hand on the boys again.
  • Katherine Jackson overhears a phone conversation between Joe and a mistress and beats HIM!

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Joseph Jackson is portrayed as a temperamental and violent individual. He terrorizes his family with threats and beatings in many scenes, and his overall presence is intimidating.
  • Katherine Jackson is portrayed as a gentle and loving individual, but there is a sense of powerlessness with her character during the first half of the miniseries. In the second half she stands up for family and herself, and a physical confrontation she has with Joe can be particularly startling, as it is largely out of her character but also very powerful and intense.
