Lum catches a cold and soon wears a protective mask over her nose and mouth. While the rest of the boys in class are sympathetic, Ataru is anything but.
Eventually, Megane and his group offer Ataru money if they can have Lum's protective mask (as a rather pathetic attempt to get an 'indirect kiss' from her). Ataru manages to trick Lum into giving up her mask...but also gets the other boys in class to pay to 'use' the mask.
However, it soon becomes apparent that Lum's cold has an adverse reaction to humans, leaving a green and red-striped area where the infected item has touched. Lum has even touched Ataru's face after coughing, and her handprint has left the same colored mark on his face.
The boys manage to find Lum's cousin Ten and demand he find an antidote on Lum's ship. However, the medication he gives them only causes the infected coloration to spread over their entire bodies.

One rainy evening, Shinobu is surprised when a handsome young man appears on her family's doorstep. She allows him inside, where he claims someone is trying to find him.
The next day, she finds him gone, but a thank you note left in his place. Going window-shopping, Shinobu soon comes across a detective and his assistant. The detective presents a photo of the young man, but Shinobu claims she hasn't seen him. The detective then goes on to explain that the young man is suspected of murdering the patriarch of a wealthy company. The young man is one of 3 siblings, but unlike the others, he was adopted into the family.
Shinobu then leaves, but comes across the young man sometime afterwards in a car. He claims he is using a credit card to get around, claiming that his siblings want him dead so they can inherit his family's fortune. They stop at a restaurant, but then run for it when they observe several dark-suited men arriving in cars.
The young man and Shinobu regroup at a cafe, where she calls her parent's house, only to hear that Ataru is there. She then places another call, before they retreat to the clocktower in the schoolhouse. As they hide, someone enters intending to kill them. However, just then, Ataru's friends and the detective show up. Lum had told Ataru's friends to go to the clocktower, while she went off to save Ataru.
The suspect with the gun is locked up, and the young man is returned to normalcy. As the family business had close ties to the Mendo family, Shutaro shows up as a witness to the reading of the will. However, the reading takes a strange turn when Shinobu shows up. She then provides a new piece to the puzzle.
It seemed too convenient that the men knew to find them in the restaurant, but how did the assassin know to find them in the clocktower? She then accuses the young man of plotting his own assassination attempt, intending to frame his relatives. Shinobu was pegged to be killed since she could blow the whole case wide open...which she has. The detective then shows up, having overheard the conversation, and arrests the young man.
