Plot Summary

16-year-old Alexis Winston is a talented but untrained figure skater from the small town of Waverly, Iowa. A prominent coach sees her skate in a regional competition and wants to train her. Lexie's father is convinced to allow her to leave with the coach to an important competition in the city. There Lexie is exposed to a different world. She becomes a sensation in the skating community and falls for a television sportscaster. One evening while practicing, Lexis suffers a terrible accident that takes her sight and threatens to destroy her dreams. Abandoned by all her fairweather friends, Lexie goes home to rebuild her life. Bitter and angry, she initially refuses to leave her room. Gradually, her father, devoted boyfriend and former coach help her realize that she can still fulfill her dreams. Written by Heather Niles

Trivia Lynn-Holly Johnson was cast after she was brought to the attention of the filmmakers by "Ice Capades" executive Michael Kirbay and ice-skating coach John Nicks. Johnson, who was on tour with the Ice Capades show, flew to Minnesota for a script reading and to perform some ice-skating. Johnson then flew back to the show, and then, a week later, flew to Toronto, Canada for a screen-test. Johnson landed the role and signed on not long after this. See more »
Goofs Lexie competes in the sectionals, not wanting the judges or audience to know that she has lost most of her sight. However, there is no way she could credibly compete in the compulsory figures section of the competition, that portion which is a highly visual exercise of needing to be able to see the carvings in the ice.
