Westwind!.........Adventures in Hawaii!!!
raysond11 December 2009
Most people many remember actor Van Williams for the classic mid-1960's television series "The Green Hornet",where he played crusader/superhero Britt Reid that ran for one season in prime-time on ABC-TV from 1966 to 1967.However, Van Williams returned to television, but this time around for the Saturday Morning format in this live-action adventure series titled "Westwind" that ran for one season as part of NBC's Saturday Morning schedule from September 6, 1975 until September 4, 1976. Only 13 episodes were produced for this series which was by the way filmed on location in Hawaii. Produced by D'Angelo Productions for 20th Century-Fox Television and NBC-TV.

"Westwind" was based on the adventures of a family that had a boat named Westwind anchored off the coast of Hawaii that serve as the entry for some of the adventures--both on land and also underwater. "Westwind" in some aspects was part "Adventures in Paradise",part "Sea Hunt",and part "Flipper". Van Williams stars as Steve Andrews, who was an underwater photographer and also was a scientist. His wife Kate(Niki Dantine)was a marine biologist, and their kids Robin(Kimberly Beck),and Thomas(Steve Burns)were the kids who were not only practicing scuba divers, but in some aspects were into one adventure after one. Plenty of contrived melodrama and adventure along with dangers on land and under the sea faced them in this one-year entry, which lasted one season. Screen legend John Carradine also starred in this series.

"Westwind",was also known for some of its breathtaking photography both on land and underwater by Lamar Boren who was also the photographer for the classic 1960's television series "Flipper".
