Gilbert has run out of design ideas for the boutique. While Jed is away, Nellie offers Gilbert his room so he can relax and let the creative juices flow. Nellie pampers him and when Jed gets back, Nellie makes him sleep on the settee. He is so fed up of the Nellie/Gilbert arrangement, he goes to live with George. Gilbert is creative again and when Jed comes back home, George has groomed him to look like Gilbert.

Nellie gets splashed by a passing car. The owner Charles takes her home to dry her off. They start dating and she finds out that she has been paying for all the expensive clothes, dinners, horse riding, golfing etc. When her dad Jed goes to his house, the bailiffs are there seizing his belongings for non payment. It seems the house was a rental that he had not paid rent on.

The Brewery is on strike and Nellie and Jed have no money to pay the bank back for their loans. They burn their furniture to keep warm, sell what they can to buy food. When George and Gilbert come in to have a picnic, that is all they can stand, they are starving. Luckily, the boys share the picnic, and the gang come in to say the strike is over.

An author is looking for haunted pubs and Stanley convinces him the Brown Cow is haunted, so he agrees to spend the night. The gang dress up in period costumes to frighten him. They get stuck in the secret passage and he hears them screaming and runs out, then Nellie sees a real one.
