Getting up to leave as soon as the end credits start: is that a bad thing?
The recent piece on this site about 'credit offset' brings up an important issue that has been the cause of some heated debate among my friends and dearly beloved recently: should cinema audiences stay put for the end credits of a movie? Should people stay in their seats while anything up to 10 minutes of credits sweep by, or should people get themselves up and vacate the cinema so that the hard-working cinema employees can sweep up their rubbish in time for the next showing?
Now, being a Wittertainee and a cinephile, I am anticipating a stream of irate responses along the lines of “Of Course cinema audiences should stay put for the credits! How is this even a question?!”
There are two main reasons for cinema fans’ passionate advocacy for staying in your seats.

On Easter Sunday in 1993, inmates at a maximum-security correctional facility in Lucasville, Ohio, grabbed control for 11 days, making it the longest prison siege in U.S. history. Rioters took eight prison guards hostage, one of whom was killed – along with nine inmates.
Netflix’s new documentary series “Captive,” from filmmakers Simon and Jonathan Chinn and Doug Liman, kicks off its eight-episode first season by recounting the harrowing events behind that riot, interviewing both inmates and guards involved with the hostage stand-off. But unlike Netflix’s “Making a Murderer,” which premiered during the holiday season in 2014, “Captive” follows a new story every episode. Later hours include the story of a kidnapped Brazilian-American woman who ran her family’s Coca-Cola bottling plant.

The music we grow up with shapes our tastes in later life, according to a study by Cornell University. We asked Guardian writers to tell us about the songs that take them back to their childhood homes
'My mother would listen to the Carpenters while ironing'
Of the handful of albums my parents owned, it was The Carpenters' Singles 1969-1973 that struck me the most. I remember being particularly fascinated by Rainy Days and Mondays. With the benefit of hindsight, I suspect it was because it was the first piece of music I had ever heard that appeared to perfectly suit the circumstances in which I heard it. My mother would listen to the Carpenters in the afternoon, while doing the ironing in the front room, and I remember thinking that was what the woman in the song was probably doing too. In my head she was singing it...

'Twilight' star isn't eager to lend his likeness to an advertising campaign anytime soon.

Beverly Hills, California — Kevin Spacey voices Honda commercials. Brad Pitt has been known to recommend a frosty Heineken or two. Jennifer Aniston would love to sell you some shampoo, Halle Berry would like to share some makeup tips, and Beyoncé hopes you pay for it all with your American Express card.
Long gone, it seems, are the days when artists sought to preserve their integrity by staying away from commercial endorsements. Which seems to leave one glaringly obvious question in the minds of "Twilight" fans worldwide: When is Robert Pattinson going to try and sell us something?
Without a doubt, the last 12 months have seen RPattz soar to a celebrity stature as huge — if not bigger — than any of the above-listed superstars. So, when we caught up with...

As you have seen, we’ve been closely following the release of DJ Hero, the next step in rhythm gaming from Activision. Today is no exception as the company has now released the full 93 song set list for the game. While all club styled mixes, remixes and mashups, DJ Hero boasts one of the most varied collection of artists in any Hero franchise release.
With everything from the Jackson 5 to 2Pac, Daft Punk to Queen and everything in between, that variety of DJ Hero’s playlist is unmatched, as long as you like mashups and remixes. If you are a musical purist to the extreme, this game isn’t really what you’d be looking for.
In addition, the game will feature 10 tracks where players can plug in their Guitar Hero guitar and play alongside their friend on the DJ Hero turntable for a true real time rock / dance mashup.
