Venice: an inner and outer landscape
dlsiega11 May 2002
This black-and-white mystery film, which is set in Venice, has recently been restored. The protagonist, a high-class, 30-year-old woman hires a detective to try and find out under what mysterious circumstances her husband has died. The shadowings all around the city enable director Glauco Pellegrini to portray several places, facades, bridges, canals of Venice.

Some characters have a complex personality (as tortuous as a Venetian "calle"!), which is very realistic and reminds me of the best Hitchcock films as regards in-depth psychological analysis. On the other hand there are also a few "flat characters" (for instance the dead man's mother) who contribute with humorous remarks to an otherwise dramatic film.
