A Real Tearjerker
meitschi28 January 2001
An incredibly melodramatic celebration of family values and marital love. Watched today, this highly emotional tearjerker only seems funny, though it is well made and acted by Antal Páger, Klári Tolnay and Elma Bulla in the main roles.

A Hungarian physicist (Antal Páger) comes back from Africa to Kolozsvár/Cluj in Transsylvania (at the time the film was made, this town belonged to Hungary, now it is in Romania). He has a deadly secret: in Africa, he has caught a terrible disease that will kill him in a few days or weeks and is also highly contagious - he must not touch anybody at all. So he does not return to his beloved wife (Elma Bulla) and children but goes to the town hotel and pretends that the attractive woman he travels with (Klári Tolnay) is his new lover - in reality, she is his doctor. He must accomplish his most important scientific project - then, he knows, he is doomed to die...
