The US got the version with most of the songs missing.
horn-57 June 2006
The 1937 Artisti Associati Production "Allergi Masnadieri" had its first U.S.A. showing at NYC's Cine Roma Theater on Thursday, October 19, 1939, minus 15 minutes running time seen on original release in Italy in 1937.

Since the USA version was all Italian with no English titles, it also did not have a title change when shown on a US screen and, thus, no US alternate title. "The Make-Believe Pirates" was just a trade-paper reviewer's translation of the Italian title.

The film stars Assia Noris and Mino d'Oro (later changed to Doro.) Noris is on her way to marry an unseen suitor in the New World and manages to fall in with some pirates. But, unknown to her, her fiancé (d'Oro)is one of the pirate crew members. At some point (probably between the missing songs), the twain does meet.
