The US got the version with most of the songs missing.

The 1937 Artisti Associati Production "Allergi Masnadieri" had its first U.S.A. showing at NYC's Cine Roma Theater on Thursday, October 19, 1939, minus 15 minutes running time seen on original release in Italy in 1937.

Since the USA version was all Italian with no English titles, it also did not have a title change when shown on a US screen and, thus, no US alternate title. "The Make-Believe Pirates" was just a trade-paper reviewer's translation of the Italian title.
