Ruth Etting was a major recording singer who made occasional assaults on Hollywood during the 1930s. No of them took, in large part, as shown here, because she was very bland and a bit stiff when not singing.
However, the purpose of this short is to showcase Miss Etting's singing: "Shine On Harvest Moon," "You've Got Me Crying Again" and a torch song introduced here, "We Couldn't Do Better Than That." Those take only a few minutes, so the rest of the twenty minutes is filled up engagingly with a comic story about how Nat Carr wants to hire Ruth to sing on the radio to sell his canned fish. There are some amusing gags at the expense of Tin Pan Alley and the movie is well worth your time if you enjoy the music.
