The old clerk, Official Borman, holds office in the basement offices of the Land Office along with other officials and actuaries. Among his colleagues is the young and handsome Dr. Marek, who is visited by his friend, the engineer Rudik. The object of their common interest is two young women appearing outside the window of the opposite house. One of them is Miss Irenka, the daughter of the director of their office, the other is Nastya, the director's girlfriend.
