A quirky tale of quirky misfits
21 May 2024
Reminiscent of the disjointed narrative of The Prisoner, this story could only be set somewhere in the heart of England. Northampton, in fact, 60 miles by road or rail from London - publicly rated as the most boring town in Britain. Oh, how little you know!

As way out and strange as many of the characters are, none of them are beyond the realms of reason. All of them may be met in a lifetime of visiting the lesser frequented, more "artistic" parts of any town or city in Britain. Only the unpleasant Mr Bleeker is in any way over the top, but not by much.

The private detectives with a Filme Noir feel will make you chuckle, while questioning their sources.

The dark drama of the plot is accompanied by a quirkily dark humour; expect a level of philosophy without resolution, metaphysics without explanation and an ending that is both satisfying and leaves space for a sequel or a series to follow. There are mysteries within mysteries to be unravelled.

There is violence a-plenty but little gore (makes a change!), there is strong language, though in context and not gratuitous.
