This is a true story but an old tell from where I am from. This is called Nightmare in "Columbia County" though there is no such county. It happened in Lexington County right outside of Columbia SC. I grew here and it still talked about even in 2024. I would still recommend this today even after all these years. I was a teen when it happened and it changed my life. When Shari Smith was kidnapped I was in high school and I remember how it was the biggest manhunt in the whole state of SC. My parents wouldn't let me go out and do things like they used to because of how scared they were that I would get kidnapped. I used to do pageants like her sister Dawn Smith but I living in NC at the time though my family was from SC, I am a military kid so I wasn't currently living in SC at the time but I had family who lived right down the road from Sheriff Metts and I knew him for years and he was a pretty nice man to me. He really did his best on this and he did catch the man, Larry Gene Bell but it was too late to save Shari. But Larry Gene Bell was the last person to be executed by electric chair in SC. He deserved it. What he put that family through as well as the others was terrible!! However Dawn Smith went on tp be an accomplished motivational speaker. I met her many times and she somehow kept a very positive light through such a trying time!
