I read the entire original manhwa several times and thought this adaptation (due to the director's inexperience with action) would be sub-par. To my delight, it was actually remarkably competent, and even hightened the story past what the manhwa accomplished. The pacing is far more measured than I thought it would be with some of the news I heard beforehand; the directing is very even and focuses on the right areas; and the english dub is quite good (especially Jinwoo's english VA who does an AMAZING job).
The animation is pretty par-for-the-course for A-1 Pictures: very flashy but carrying a lot of weight. The writing (at least in the english dub) is also far surpassed my expectations. It actually does a pretty great job of highlighting the themes that I felt the manhwa didn't capitalize on.
To be fair, I haven't read the original webnovel, but I think this (so far) is a much better adaptation, though I still re-read the manhwa pretty frequently. I am SO excited for what I know is coming.
I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but definitely to my shonen loving friends who are looking for cool fights and character they can root for. Can't wait for season 2!
