Rather faithful to the book
14 April 2024
This French crime adventure film taking place in the USA - but shot in Spain desert - is adapted from an André Lay's novel. Lay was a French very prolific novelist who wrote during thirty years for Fleuve Noir publisher, specialized in popular crime, science fiction and espionage litterature. Only few of Andre Lay's books were adapted to the big or small screen, the most impressive is "Un Linceul de Sable" and produced for screen under the title: THEY CAME TO ROB LAS VEGAS...A very unique novel, that gave a very unique movie too. Some elements in common with this story, it takes place in the US desert. Nothing special but a very taut and sharp script, and a good unexpected ending, not that foreseeable. As with James Hadley Chase - because Andre Lay was the French and also "poor man's" Hadley Chase - the characters are not that sympathetic but only greedy, selfish, never a real hero in those stories, where twists were galore.
