Ralph Bakshi's (Fritz the Cat/American Pop) 1975 animated feature, a take off on Uncle Remus tales, as we follow Br'er Rabbit, Fox & Bear (Philip Michael Thomas, Barry White & Charles Gordone) into the big bad city as they make their way as new crime lords usurping corrupt cops & the mob to get to the top. As per usual of Bakshi's output of the time, no target is off the menu (the treatment of blacks in America, wild oversimplifications of gays & drug addicts, etc.) & his trademark crude animation interspersed w/live action footage is typically hit or miss but there's a certain car accident voyeurism at play which forces the viewer to keep watching no matter how uneven the finished product is. Bakshi voices the bent cop & Scatman Crothers shows up as a wise convict (lending a voice as well).
